El Bosquetón

This Program seeks to protect tropical rainforests. Its objective is to prevent forest fires and promote reforestation in areas that have been burned or chopped.

MAIN PROJECTS OF BoSQUETON IN EXECUTION:

  • Support to the Conservation Project of Laguna Brava
    Reforestation (Up today 50,000 trees in the Chacula Community) and sustainable development in
    26 communities of the Laguna Brava in Nentón, Huehuetenango, as part of the biological corridor bordering with Mexico-Guatemala. In Aliance with P&C Maderas Internacionales S.A. www.pcmaderas.net

  • Christmas Trees Project in Nenton Huehuetenango
    Planting Pine Trees (48,000) for Christmas trees, to be harvest between 3 to 5 years with a special pruning to achieve the desire shape, as an alternative of a medium term productive project.

 

  • Support to the Mirador Basin
    Fundraising efforts to support archeological excavations, reforestation activities and communitary organization in the Mirador Basin at the Mayan Biosphere Reserve in Petén.

  • Press Junket “The Rainforest World Event”
    Efforts to help save the Mayan Biosphere Reserve through a Press Junket in Antigua, Guatemala and a scouting trip to Peten, with 50 international media people, TV networks, and magazines in the US, in addition to international celebrities such as Bianca Jagger, Casey Kasem, Emmanuel, Kenny Scharf to make an S.O.S. cry to the world to help save it. (1998)

  • Seminar-Workshop “El Bosquetón”
    Joint effort of the Ministers of the Environment of the Mesoamerican countries to counteract forest fires in the region. (1999)

  • Series of Press Conferences “El Bosquetón”
    The Theme–Climate Change in Latin America in the Millennium– to use the media. To present regional awareness campaigns to mitigate the problem. (2000)

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Children and Youth, our hope. Knowing that children and youngsters are the ones who will eventually govern the planet, we feel it is crucial to place a larger emphasis on their environmental education.
Reaching Adults. Our task is to capture the attention of adults of all social, ethnical and economic strata and of various occupations. We find it necessary to create communication campaigns that may allow us to raise awareness on the people regarding environmental topics.

MAIN PROJECTS IN EXECUTION:

 Is the first multimedia project in Latin America and the Caribbean highlighting success stories of individuals, entrepreneurs, and rural and urban communities that improve their living standards while protecting their environment.

Produced by the Television for the Environment Foundation (TVE-London) and 16 associated organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, microMACRO includes a television series of 81 documentaries, broadcast in over 30 countries of the region, and backed up by an interactive website and a wide variety of educational material.

A cable TV station which will broadcast documentaries, interviews and live programs with environmental, scientific and cultural topics.

    Soap Opera containing environmental educational topics directed to the rural population of Guatemala. Produced in Spanish and five main indigenous languages. (1994)

    Regional television show (in alliance with Kellogg’s) on ecology viewed by Central American children. (1993-1999)

  • Ecolovisión
    Activities for children, such as trips, celebrations, and the periodical Newsletter of the Foundation. (1995-2002) Contests of ecological paintings to celebrate Earth Day in Aliance with PlayZone (2000-2001)

  • Environmental Seminars of High Level
    Directed to politicians and Senators regarding environmental issues in Guatemala. A series of Seminars were held with recognized Speakers. (1999-2001)
